A Pet-Friendly Afternoon at King Rama IX Park in Phuket Town
Looking for a park in Phuket Town where you can bring your dog and spend quality time with your family? King Rama IX Park is one of the most spacious and family-friendly green areas in the city and yes, it’s pet-friendly too. With large open fields, sports courts, shaded gardens, and a peaceful atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for both exercise and relaxation with your furry friends and little ones.
Park Hours and Best Time to Visit
The park is open daily from 5:00 AM till 10:00 AM and then from 15:00 PM till 8:30 PM, giving visitors the flexibility to plan their day. Early morning walkers enjoy the cooler air and calm environment, while the evenings draw larger crowds looking to unwind after work or school. While you can go at any time, the best time to visit is after 5:30 PM, when the sun starts to set and the heat fades. This is when locals gather to walk, play, socialize, and enjoy the golden hour breeze giving the entire park a lively, welcoming vibe.
Dog-Walking at King Rama IX Park
One of the highlights for me was bringing my XL Doberman along. The park offers plenty of space for walking dogs on leash, and we felt welcome and comfortable throughout our time there.
That said, not everyone follows the rules a few owners were letting their small dogs off-leash, which isn’t ideal. Most of these were harmless little breeds like Chihuahuas or Pomeranians, so there was no real danger.
We did encounter one friendly Husky who was quickly recalled by her owner, and later a stray dog that tried to approach from behind, but my dog held his ground and it passed without issue.
Even with these moments, the overall atmosphere was fantastic, and we appreciated the space and respect from most people in the park.
Bringing your pet here can be a great experience as long as you remain aware of your surroundings and follow basic etiquette. Keeping your dog on a leash and being mindful of others helps maintain a safe and welcoming space for everyone. For larger dogs like mine, this park is one of the few in Phuket Town where they can enjoy a proper walk without feeling restricted.

Family Fun and Sports Activities
During our visit on a Sunday, the park was full of activity. Local teenagers were playing football and volleyball, people practiced sepak takraw, and children were climbing around the colorful playground.
The wide open space, shaded benches, and clean paths made it easy to enjoy the afternoon. With my 9-month-old baby, we found a quiet patch of grass to relax, play, and just enjoy being outdoors together.
The sports areas are a major highlight. There are several well-maintained courts where people of all ages gather to play team games or practice their favorite moves. From kids learning to ride bicycles to serious athletes working on drills, there’s room for everyone. The playground is modern and safe, with colorful structures that keep children engaged for hours. It’s a space built for families, and it shows.
A Welcoming Space for Everyone
King Rama IX Park delivers. It’s a community space that truly welcomes everyone pets and children included.
This mix of green space, sports facilities, playgrounds, and natural beauty makes it a great location for families, fitness lovers, and pet owners alike. With its convenient location in Phuket Town and friendly vibe, it’s no surprise more and more locals are calling it their favorite outdoor spot.

Despite the occasional off-leash dog or stray, our experience was overwhelmingly positive. The environment felt peaceful and social, with people respecting each other’s space and activities. My 9-month-old baby had a wonderful time crawling and exploring the grass, while my Doberman was able to stretch his legs and interact calmly with other dogs.
